The Alabama Association of Nurse Anesthetists

This is the official website of the Alabama Association of Nurse Anesthetists. Our organization was founded in 1931, making ALANA one of the first organizations of nurse anesthetists. Today ALANA works closely with its parent organization, the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, to achieve local, regional, and national goals. ALANA is governed by an eleven-member board of directors. The officers and members of this board are elected by the active members in an election that takes place during the fall, one month prior to the annual meeting that is held in Birmingham. ALANA also hosts a spring meeting that is held at the Sandestin Resort in Destin, Florida. Business meetings of the ALANA are held at both of these meetings.

Shannon Scaturro, CRNA is the President of ALANA. Members and others are welcome to contact Shannon during the evenings for matters of interest or concern.

The ALANA Board of Directors are assisted by a support staff that includes a Government Relations Specialist, a General Counsel, and a Support Services Specialist.

Susan Hansen is the ALANA Government Relations Specialist and our official contact for matters of importance to the Association. Susan is available to members and others during business hours at the Franklin Resources Group. Joe Knight, CRNA, JD is the ALANA General Counsel. Mr. Knight is available to the ALANA Board of Directors for advice in legal, regulatory, and statutory matters.

Jim Henderson, CRNA is the Support Services Specialist. Mr. Henderson maintains the web site, publishes and edits the ALANA NewsBulletin, maintains the e-mail contact list, maintains the ALANA Member List, develops and distributes brochures for the state meetings, assists with development and mailing of the ballot and numerous other functions.
